Graphic Recording Example 5: Darumbal Community Youth Service – Youth Forum 2019
Phil was asked by the Darumbal Youth Services in Rockhampton to attend and capture a number of the sessions for their very first Youth Summit.
This organization is based in Rockhampton, but covers a wide region of rural Queensland, supporting and aiding Indigenous youth.

This summit was attended by around 80 young people between the ages of 11 to 18.
The sessions gave them the opportunity to voice their issues, common problems and challenges they face on a daily basis.
These included difficult home situations, remoteness, and racial issues.

The sessions were hosted by Indigenous elders Leanne Wilson and Mal Meninga. Phil captured several sessions throughout the day, including the morning sessions raising real issues for the youth. And then the afternoon session which was looking at how to manage these issues and develop character along with leadership qualities under these adversities.
Phil enjoyed the experience thoroughly, and with his health background in Nursing (including time with Indigenous Health in Brisbane), he was able to capture details that might have been missed otherwise.
The resulting images were included a detailed report on the event which was distributed to a wide range of services such as the Education Dept. Police Dept, and other relevant groups.
The Darambal Youth Services were very happy with the resulting capture of information and plan to use Phil’s services in future events and brainstorming sessions.

“Darumbal Community Youth Service Inc. engaged Phil for our inaugural Youth Forum in 2019 to assist with creating a simple, fun, and easy way to present information for the young people involved in the forum. Phil was able to create a great informatic cartoon map based on the young people’s thoughts which provided an easy to read reflection of the day. The below images are taken from the day and are apart of the Darumbal Community Youth Service Inc report “Walking Together To Make Things Better: Rockhampton Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Youth forum Report”
