The Process Sample 3
|
On this page we show you the actual process of a project from beginning to end. This gives you an idea of what to expect when you order an image through us.

|
Step 1: The Brief.
An advertising agency wished to have a cartoon 'Spot the Difference' created for one of their clients. It was to be used for a billboard. The client gave Comic Express a written brief including a mock-up of what they had in mind. The written brief included sizing, 600mm (60cm) by 600mm (60cm). It was to be sent to them as a psd file (Photshop file) and at 300dpi. The finished work was needed within days and the dealine was easily met. The scenario for the work was: that if you have enough time to do the puzzle on the billboard, then you must be stuck in traffic and should be using the train instead of driving a car.

Mock up provided by client of what they were looking for.
Step 2: Choice of Style. The client was met with at their offices and they picked a style they liked and felt appropriate for their job from a sample booklet showing a wide range of styles.
|
Step 3: The Ideas and Roughs. Three 'Spot the Difference' cartoons were created and roughed out. They were scanned and the differences were indicated on the rough for the clients to see rather the repeating the image twice to show differences. Our client showed their client and the jogger cartoon was chosen. See samples of roughs below.

Step 4: Penciled. A tight rough was created and sent for final approval before inking. This was close to the final image and style the client asked for. See sample below of pencilled image.

Step 5: Inked. Once the pencilled image was approved it was then inked with pen and ink on a light box. It was scanned into the computer and assembled in Photoshop CS3. It was then cleaned up and the line work tightened using a wacom tablet. This image was to be the first picture out of the two for the puzzle.

Step 6: Creation of Cartoon with Differences. The second image was created using a wacom drawing tablet removing and adding changes to a copy of the original cartoon in order to create the image with differences.
 |
| The original image copied then changed for the second image with the differences. |
Step 7: Final images. The two images were printed and then checked via a few people. The images were burned to CD and dropped in to the client's offices with the final invoice. The client was followed up the next day to make sure they got it and were happy with it. They were very happy with it and how the whole project finally turned out. Check out the final two images side by side below.

Meeting with the client is not the normal thing unless the fee covers travel and meeting time as in this case. Usually it is over a phone or via email that a client will give feedback and instructions to Comic Express.
